Naples: Heroic police officer dives into deep water to save two motorists.

A morning of ordinary bad weather narrowly avoided tragedy. This is what happened today, Friday, October 9th, in eastern Naples, specifically in San Giovanni a Teduccio, near the port. A violent downpour turned a nearby underpass into a water trap, blocking several vehicles and putting the lives of motorists at risk.

A police officer serving with the Flying Squad of the Naples Police Headquarters prevented the worst from happening by transforming himself into a guardian angel in civilian clothes.

The intuition and the rush to the port to find a heavy vehicle

The situation immediately appeared critical, with the water level constantly and rapidly rising. The officer, despite being off duty and without his standard equipment, didn't hesitate for a moment to assess the danger and devise an emergency strategy.

Realizing that normal maneuvers or waiting for technical assistance might take too long, the officer rushed to the nearby port area. There, he managed to intercept and engage the driver of a truck and trailer, the only vehicle capable of operating in those compromised traffic conditions.

Immersion in freezing water to hook up the cars

But his intervention wasn't limited to simply organizing the rescue operations from the ground. In an act of great generosity and disregard for danger, the officer personally immersed himself in the rising water, reaching the center of the flooded underpass to reach the disabled cars and connect them to the heavy vehicle's tow cables.

He first rescued the driver of the car in the most critical position, then returned to free the second driver, who was trapped in his Mercedes. A coordinated and risky operation, which, thanks in part to the truck driver's valuable assistance, had a happy ending: both drivers were rescued and brought to dry shore.

The union applauds: "An example for the entire State Police."

The incident immediately sparked great emotion and pride within the police force. Angelo Raffaele Esposito, Provincial General Secretary of the SILP CGIL Naples, emphasized the significance of the gesture:
"This is the true meaning of being a police officer. Not turning away when someone needs help. Our colleague demonstrated courage, generosity, and above all a great sense of duty, putting his own safety at risk."

The union wanted to emphasize that behind the uniform are women and men ready to sacrifice themselves daily for the citizens, while also hoping that the Administration's leadership will formally recognize this extraordinary service with appropriate official recognition. An act of daily heroism that restores the true meaning of public service.
