Camerota, fire on Mount Bulgheria, hectares of Mediterranean scrub burned.

Camerota– The fire that has been ravaging the slopes of Mount Bulgheria, in the Licusati area of the province of Salerno, for over a day continues unabated. The flames, fueled by dry Mediterranean scrub vegetation, have already consumed several hectares of forest and spread to cultivated land, causing extensive damage to a local farm.

A Canadair is in action on the scene, continuing to fly over the area in an attempt to contain the fire, while on the ground, several firefighting teams and workers from the Lambro and Mingardo Mountain Community are engaged in an extinguishing operation made complex by the conformation of the terrain and the persistence of the flames.

Among the crops destroyed were chestnut, walnut, hazelnut, fig, and olive trees, iconic trees of the Salerno agricultural landscape. A precise assessment of the damage is still underway, but initial estimates point to significant losses for the local economy, already strained by the summer drought.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is being entrusted to the Carabinieri Forestry Corps and the Public Prosecutor's Office. Among the possibilities being examined by investigators is arson, given the fire's strategic location and the speed with which it spread in the initial hours.

Meanwhile, the population of Licusati and the surrounding hamlets remains on high alert, while authorities are constantly monitoring the situation to prevent the flames from threatening homes or infrastructure.
