Naples — Hundreds of students, residents, and representatives of the nonprofit sector marched this morning in Scampia in the "Napoli Città Anticamorra" march, promoted by the City of Naples for the Day Against Camorra Influence. Despite severe weather, the march passed through iconic sites in the northern suburbs, from the "Restart Scampia" construction sites—where new housing is being built on the site of the Vele—to Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, where the band A67 was scheduled to perform.
Councilor for Legal Affairs Antonio De Iesu called the day "special," emphasizing the large turnout of children and young people. "We wanted the route to pass right where the new Le Vele buildings are," De Iesu explained, "to show young people that there's a beauty that some places need to be reclaimed. The fight against the Camorra also involves beautiful, decent homes with adequate space."
The demonstration, open to schools of all levels, universities, unions, sports and cultural associations, started from Largo della Cittadinanza Attiva around 10:00 a.m., passed through the Vele square, and concluded in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, where heavy rain forced an early end to the program. Among those in attendance were Councilor De Iesu, City Councilor Catello Maresca, the initiative's initiator, Nicola Nardella, President of the VIII Municipality, and Michele di Bari, Prefect of Naples.
The event is part of a series of institutional initiatives to promote a culture of legality and active citizenship, implementing the council resolution establishing the Day Against the Influence of the Camorra in the city of Naples.
