The flower market of Pompeii
Pompeii – A brutally violent attack, sparked by old personal grudges and culminating in bloodshed in the summer heat of last June. There's a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the punitive raid near Pompeii's Flower Market: officers from the local Police Station have executed a detention order against a young local man believed to be one of those responsible for the raid.
The order, issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Torre Annunziata Court at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, charges the suspect with very serious crimes: aggravated personal injury, aggravated theft in conspiracy, and illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of causing offence.
The events date back to the night of June 20, 2026. The victim was near the shopping area when he was surrounded by a group of youths, including the current suspect. Within moments, the argument escalated: the boy was hit by a hail of kicks and punches and then repeatedly stabbed with a knife.
A brutal attack that left the young man with deep stab wounds between his hip and thigh, as well as a fractured acetabulum, with a recovery prognosis of sixty days, according to medical staff.
Not only physical violence: taking advantage of the chaos and the moment of total vulnerability of the bleeding victim on the ground, the suspect also incited an accomplice to steal the keys to his motorcycle, a powerful Kawasaki Z900, before fleeing into the darkness of the night.
A comprehensive investigation conducted by the State Police and coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office closed the loop on the group. To reconstruct the tense moments of the ambush in detail, investigators used footage from local surveillance systems, cross-referencing it with testimonies gathered and subsequent photographic evidence.
Elements that highlighted a solid circumstantial framework and allowed us to contest specific aggravating circumstances: having acted at night to hinder the victim's defense, the skill in the theft and the futile motives behind the attack.
The suspect was notified of the new order while he was incarcerated at the "G. Salvia" prison in Poggioreale, Naples, where he was already being held for another legal matter.
The proceedings are currently in the preliminary investigation phase. As established by the constitutional principles protecting the suspect, the precautionary measure may be appealed before the Court of Review, and the young man's criminal responsibility will be determined only following a possible final conviction.
