Caivano Regional Council remembers Salvatore Calignano with a minute of silence.

A minute of silence was observed in the Regional Council to remember Salvatore Calignano, the 61-year-old worker who died on Saturday in Caivano while carrying out work.

Today's second session of the Campania Regional Council opened with a spirit of mourning over the tragedy. Speaker Massimiliano Manfredi, president of the assembly, emphasized the role of institutions in the face of a workplace death.

"When faced with a workplace death, or in any case a death that occurs while someone is working, institutions have the first duty of respectful silence, of closeness to the family, and of seeking the truth," Manfredi said.

The President of the Regional Council then emphasized the need to make prevention a constant priority, without waiting for a tragedy to bring attention to the issue.

"Workplace safety cannot be considered a bureaucratic obligation, nor can it become a priority only after a tragedy. It is a fundamental right, which must be protected every day, on every construction site, in every company, in every workplace," added Manfredi.

A minute of silence thus opened the session of the regional assembly, becoming a moment of closeness to Calignano's family and a reminder of the institutions' responsibility to prevent accidents in the workplace.
