The tenth edition of the SaFF – Social Action Film Festival was held in the Donnaregina Monumental Complex, featuring the special appearance of Trudie Styler, guest of honor, and a screening of her documentary, "Can I Enter? An Ode to Naples."
During the event, journalist Michelangelo Iossa presented the director with a copy of the book "We Are Not Neapolitans. The 100 Non-Neapolitans Who Made Naples Great" (MEA Editions), with a dedication to her in the chapter featuring the author.
I'm happy and honored to be counted among the non-Neapolitans who have made this wonderful city great, a city that has literally captured my soul. When I was asked to make a documentary, I arrived in Naples like a blank canvas. People began to welcome me as if I were a welcome guest, and I was deeply touched by their generosity. You in Naples have the strongest sense of community I've ever experienced anywhere in the world. I'm happy to be on the pages of Michelangelo's book: now I feel like a Neapolitan through and through!
According to Iossa, Styler approached the challenge of documentary filmmaking with education as the primary tool and made room for local voices, crafting a narrative that alternates well-known figures with everyday faces, accompanied by a soundtrack by Clementino. The camera becomes a secular confessional where protagonists like Father Antonio Loffredo, Francesco Di Leva, Roberto Saviano, and Jorit emerge, without neglecting the stories of chestnut sellers or veterans of the Four Days of Terror.
The writer emphasized that Trudie Styler didn't come to explain Naples, but to interpret it with respect. According to Iossa, the director deserves a prominent place among the personalities who have made Naples even greater in the eyes of the world.
