Yellow alert from midnight: thunderstorms in Naples, Vesuvius, Sannio, and the Amalfi Coast.

A yellow alert has been issued for part of Campania. The Regional Civil Protection Department, based on the assessments of the Functional Center, has issued a warning valid from 12:00 AM to 3:00 PM tomorrow, Thursday, October 8th.

Zone 1 (Campania Plain, Naples, islands, Vesuvian area), Zone 2 (Upper Volturno and Matese), Zone 3 (Sorrento-Amalfi Peninsula, Sarno Mountains, and Picentini Mountains), and Zone 4 (Upper Irpinia and Sannio) are affected. In the latter, the phenomena are expected to be especially severe in the Upper Sannio area.

Local showers and thunderstorms are expected, often of moderate intensity. The development is uncertain and rapid: possible gusts of wind, lightning, and hail, with damage to roofs and temporary structures and falling branches or trees.

The risk is hydrogeological. The levels of smaller watercourses may rise, causing flooding in nearby areas, flooding of underground and ground-floor spaces, water flowing onto roads, and backflow of drainage systems, especially in depressed urban areas. In vulnerable areas, occasional rockfalls and landslides cannot be ruled out, also due to the effects of forest fires.
