Referee injured in Casamicciola: 12 people reported
An afternoon of football transformed into a cycle of violence and tension. This is what happened last September 26th in Casamicciola Terme, during the match between ASD Lacco Ameno 2013 and Real San Giovanni Frattaminore, when a brick thrown by a fan struck the young 19-year-old referee in the temple.
The race director was immediately treated by 118 paramedics. Despite the blow, he chose not to be taken to the hospital. Carabinieri officers from the Casamicciola Terme station also responded to the scene and began an investigation to reconstruct what happened and, more importantly, identify those responsible for throwing objects.
The investigation was conducted by analyzing video surveillance footage from the sports facility, supplemented with images subsequently published and shared on the two clubs' social media channels.
A comparison effort that allowed the military to identify 12 people, believed to be involved in various ways in the tense episodes, the clashes, and the stone-throwing that preceded and accompanied the attack on the young match director.
Each of those identified was charged with different conduct, based on the role that investigators would have reconstructed.
Two people, a 21-year-old with no criminal record and a 26-year-old already known to law enforcement, were charged with climbing over the fence, throwing stones onto the pitch, and violating a municipal ordinance prohibiting access to the stands.
A particularly significant aspect of the affair concerns the state of the stadium's stands. The stands are closed for construction and off-limits to spectators since 2022. Despite the ban, some people have reportedly managed to access the restricted areas.
Five other people were reported for accessing the facility in violation of the same municipal ordinance that prohibits entry to the stands.
According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the five are thought to be members of the staff of ASD Lacco Ameno 2013. Therefore, their charges specifically concern access to the restricted area.
The position of the last five individuals identified is different. They are charged with making false statements during summary witness statements, which, according to the investigation, were intended to hinder the identification of those responsible for throwing the objects.
Furthermore, three of these five people had previously been subject to DASPO measures, a ban on access to sporting events.
The incident thus brings the issue of safety at sports facilities back to the forefront, and especially compliance with the regulations imposed by the authorities. In this case, according to the investigations, the presence of people in a formally restricted area of the stands was a key factor in the incident.
The attack on the young referee remains the most serious incident: a blunt object thrown from the stands struck him in the head, transforming a football match into an episode of violence that required the intervention of emergency responders and subsequently a detailed investigative effort.
The twelve defendants will now have to answer, on various counts, to the charges brought against them. The Carabinieri's investigations have allowed them to identify the individuals identified through the images, reconstructing their different levels of involvement in the incident.
