Rome – Actor Davide Iacopini and five other people were attacked with a minivan. Two minors were identified and reported, and they confessed. The car's owner is a 17-year-old, the son of a Carabiniere.
The breakthrough in the serious incidents of October 4th and 5th came yesterday when—thanks to a mechanic's testimony—the minicar carrying two minors, aged 17 and 16, believed to be the perpetrators of the accident involving actor Iacopini, who is still hospitalized with a critical prognosis, was identified in the Monteverde neighborhood of Rome. The young man driving the black minicar lives in Monteverde, while his friend lives in the Testaccio neighborhood.
During the night, Carabinieri officers from the Rome San Pietro Company and officers from the Rome Capital Local Police, coordinated by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office, Deputy Prosecutor Giuseppe Cascini, and Prosecutor Ambrogio Cassiani, seized the Minicar, which, in terms of characteristics and features, matches the one used in the crimes.
The minicar was located under the home of the 17-year-old owner. It had cobra stickers on the hood, LEDs on the front bumper, and a red light on the license plate. A sticker with the mechanic's number led investigators to the man, who confirmed he had made the modifications to the car and gave the 17-year-old's name.
The testimony of the mechanic was decisive, as he said he had installed red LEDs on the license plate, and stickers, one of which depicted a snake, which matched the characteristics of the car being sought.
By analyzing the social media profile of the high school student who owned the car, the Minicar driver and the son of a Carabiniere, investigators also identified the passenger, a friend of his. During his confession, he recognized the hat found on the street after one of the attacks on Ponte Testaccio. From what emerged during the investigation, the two men have been reported for a theft they committed together.
Interrogated at the police station by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office during the night, the two admitted the crimes. The investigation, conducted with the assistance of the Carabinieri Cyber Investigation and Technical-Scientific Sections of the Investigative Unit and the Rome RIS, allowed them to gather serious evidence that the identified minicar was the vehicle used to commit the six assaults.
According to the findings, between October 4th and 5th, the night of the attacks, the minors were celebrating the birthday of one of the two. During questioning, the two boys admitted to the six assaults. An app that monitored the movements of those apps that parents download to monitor their children was also found on the cell phone of one of the minors, who confessed to the crime. GPS analysis should confirm their presence at the incident sites.
After the interrogation, the two were charged at large with attempted murder, but now it will be up to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office to evaluate the accusation and take any measures against them.
