A man in a wheelchair was killed by police in Huntington Park, Southern California. This is the latest case that fuels controversy over excessive use of force by law enforcement. The victim, 36-year-old African-American Anthony Lowe, had both legs amputated and, according to several US media, was hit by eight bullets.
Some images are going around the web: they show the moments before the shooting. They were released by the Twitter account WaFlo998 on January 28th and turned, the user reports, by his cousin. Anthony Lowe, as seen in the video, got out of the wheelchair and tried to escape, presumably with a knife in his hand. The officers chased him and walked toward him, pointing the gun at him. The images do not show the shots, but, in fact, the American media speak of at least eight shots fired.
The circumstances surrounding the man's killing are still unclear, but the victim's family has called for the officers to be fired and charged with murder. Police say Lowe had just stabbed someone and was trying to escape.
