Farewell to Rino Icardi , one of the historic voices of "Tutto il Calcio minuto per minuto" and many RAI radio programs , both sports and otherwise. He passed away in Rome , where he had lived for many years. He would have turned 86 in May.

Born in Alessandria , Icardi was the last survivor of the historic nucleus of the first radio commentators of “Tutto il Calcio” which he had helped to launch together with Roberto Bortoluzzi , Enrico Ameri , Sandro Ciotti and Alfredo Provenzali.

After founding one of the first student newspapers in Italy, Il Raglio , in the Piedmontese city , he began his career at the Gazzetta dello Sport and then moved on to Rai.

Not just sports: the story of so much news on GR2

A great horse racing enthusiast , he covered all sports but also news , from reports on the massacre at the Olympic village in Munich in 1972 to the election of John Paul II in 1978.

He was among the first to give the news to GR2 of the explosion of the bomb at Bologna station on 2 August 1980. He followed several editions of the Giro d'Italia and of the European and World Football Championships.
