Naples: 'Amnesia' Drug Dealers Arrested in San Giovanni a Teduccio

Naples – The quiet of Naples' eastern alleys was abruptly shattered yesterday evening, along Corso San Giovanni a Teduccio, near the Ponte dei Francesi. Carabinieri officers from the Bagnoli Company, in plainclothes, observed a suspicious scooter with two people aboard. The driver was a nineteen-year-old already known to law enforcement, accompanied by a seventeen-year-old accomplice.

What immediately raised the alarm was an unmistakable scent: a strong odor of narcotics emanating from the vehicle's passage. After following the scooter for several kilometers through city traffic—during which time the driver attempted reckless maneuvers, constantly looking over his shoulder—the police raided the area. Inside a large green bag carried by the passenger, the Carabinieri discovered a vacuum-packed package containing over 1.2 kilograms of marijuana flowers.

The drug test in the barracks

The real alarm bells rang at the police station during the laboratory analysis. The traditional drug test didn't return the usual positive result for hashish or marijuana, necessitating more in-depth investigations. The chemical reaction revealed the presence of compounds related to the opiate or amphetamine family.

The drug in question is the infamous and extremely dangerous "Amnesia," one of the most insidious substances currently in circulation. The two young men were sent to prison: the nineteen-year-old was transferred to Poggioreale, while the minor was taken to the Colli Aminei First Reception Center, both charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The silent epidemic of synthetic drugs

The seizure in Naples sheds light on a complex and under-recognized health and social emergency: the inexorable advance of synthetic and chemically enhanced drugs.

"Amnesia" isn't just a simple cannabis flower, but a true chemical hybrid. Regular marijuana is sprayed or treated with solvents, methadone, heroin, or heavy synthetic acids. This criminal practice transforms an already harmful product into a chemical cocktail devastating the central nervous system.

The devastating dangers to the mind and body

Permanent cognitive damage: As the name of the substance suggests, consumption causes sudden memory lapses, acute mental confusion and an early decline in cognitive abilities.
Severe Psychiatric Effects: Many young people quickly develop episodes of profound paranoia, disabling panic attacks, chronic anxiety states, and paranoid psychosis.

Risk of overdose: Unlike traditional cannabis, the presence of opiates or amphetamines weakens the body's defenses, exposing the user to serious risks of cardiovascular collapse and acute intoxication.

The fact that the couriers of this poison are 17- and 19-year-olds paints a picture of a generation sacrificed to the logic of retail drug dealing. The challenge today is not only repressive, but requires urgent and widespread prevention and education efforts, to explain to young people that behind an exotic name or a joint with an unusual smell, very often lies a one-way ticket to physical and mental destruction.
