Naples, shooting in the crowd of Piazza Bellini

“Shooting out in the crowd in Piazza Bellini, Naples , where criminal gangs fighting to conquer drug dealing areas clash.”

The episode was reported by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli who added: "They are still shooting despite the death of so many innocents". Borrelli recalls that "there is a Naples that rebels against violence and the unjust deaths of innocents, on the one hand. On the other, the thirst for blood is growing, the blood that paves the streets of the city in red".

"Some individuals, undisturbed, - explains Borrelli - allegedly opened fire in Piazza Bellini, risking hitting innocent people. Around 2 am, people arrived on two-wheeled vehicles with pistols pointed at waist height. The crowd, gripped by panic, fled in every direction."

“From what we have been told, it seems there is a sort of feud going on between Camorra groups, a challenge for control of the drug dealing areas. Some people are said to have arrived in the square armed and fired shots in the air, causing panic.

There were soldiers in the square but there are no reports of interventions. A police patrol arrived on the scene at around 4am. I asked to be informed of this episode which would be of unprecedented gravity. We also ask that the individuals involved in the episode be identified and arrested”.
