Scams in the Macerata area: Three people from Naples province arrested

Two scam incidents in the Macerata area prompted law enforcement intervention. In Camerino, Carabinieri arrested a 39-year-old man from Torre del Greco and a 23-year-old Romanian resident of Sant'Antonio Abate.

The two men, identifying themselves as Carabinieri officers over the phone, initiated a video call to remotely inspect the jewelry and cash stored in the home of an 84-year-old pensioner and her 56-year-old daughter. Under the pretext of verifying the stolen goods from a supposed robbery at a jewelry store in Macerata, they then showed up in person, threatening the women with arrest if they didn't hand over the valuables. The pensioner resisted and alerted the local station: the Carabinieri quickly intervened and arrested the two neighbors at the home.

In Corridonia, a 21-year-old man of Moroccan origin, resident in Monte San Giusto, was reported. The man had gained the trust of a woman by feigning romantic interest and, citing financial difficulties, had over time obtained jewelry and cash amounting to approximately €15.

The investigation continues to determine any possible connections between the two incidents and to identify any accomplices. The Carabinieri have emphasized the importance of not underestimating signs of a scam, especially when they involve calls or home visits that appear to be from law enforcement officials, and have reminded people to contact emergency numbers for quick checks.
