Avellino . Robotic surgery has removed a 6-centimeter tumor from a 72-year-old patient. The procedure, successfully performed at the San Giuseppe Moscati Hospital in Avellino , was conducted by the heads of neurosurgery and oncology surgery, Armando Rapanà and Francesco Crafa.

The patient, a woman living in the province of Salerno, had a tumor that had infiltrated the lumbar plexus and developed inside the abdomen. Typically, this type of intervention is performed using traditional surgery, but in this case the doctors decided to use robotics.

"We found - explained Rapanà - the concrete possibility of working with robotic arms also on the lumbar region. The operation, which lasted about three hours, was a complete success and the patient, after a short hospital stay, was discharged in good health conditions".
