Sant'Anastasia, two robberies in one week in the same supermarket: risk of closure

In the last week, supermarkets in the Eurospar Calce shopping center in Sant'Anastasia, in the province of Naples , have been robbed twice, causing an estimated €150 in damage. Despite having been in business for about 60 years, they are now at risk of being forced to close. The news was made public by Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who also released a video of the two thefts.

The owner, Gennaro, as reported in Borrelli's note, is forced to spend the nights in the supermarket premises on a chair to defend his shop from possible attacks. The criminals, increasingly bold and cunning, have even managed to sabotage the security system, causing liquids to leak when they manipulate the cash registers.

Gennaro expressed his disappointment, declaring that he only wants to be protected by the State and have the possibility to continue investing and working. Otherwise, he would be forced to lay off 25 families and abandon the place where they were born and invested.

The press release underlines the need to ask a fundamental question: is it right that shopkeepers and entrepreneurs must remain in their workplaces even after the closure to independently defend their businesses, even risking their own safety, while robbers operate undisturbed?

Certain territories seem to completely escape the control of the authorities. Despite the promises of the competent Minister to increase the number of agents in the territory, this has never happened. In particular, in this area, many traders have suffered repeated robberies and thefts in recent months, creating an unsustainable situation.

Borrelli urges to make concrete efforts to restore security, providing law enforcement with more human resources and necessary means. This is what citizens and traders, now exasperated, are asking for. The deputy assures his full support in this battle for legality.
