Sangiuliano investigated for embezzlement and disclosure of official secrets

Former minister Gennaro Sangiuliano is under investigation by the Rome Prosecutor's Office for embezzlement and disclosure of official secrets, as reported by Corriere della Sera.

This investigation was launched following a complaint filed by MP Angelo Bonelli at the Montecitorio police station. The case will now be examined by the Tribunal of Ministers, which has jurisdiction over acts committed by Sangiuliano during his term in office.

The charges focus on possible irregularities related to the travel, stays and dinners of 41-year-old Maria Rosaria Boccia, who frequented the former minister in the last months of his activity. The aim of the investigation is to determine whether there was a diversion of public funds for personal purposes.

This does not necessarily imply that there were direct expenses from the Ministry of Culture (MIC), even if Boccia has publicly shown reservations made by the ministry's secretariat in his name.

Spotlight on travel in Liguria and Puglia

However, the investigation seeks to clarify whether Boccia , without an official role on Sangiuliano's staff, enjoyed indirect benefits at the expense of the state. Particular attention will be paid to trips to Liguria and Puglia, where both participated in cultural events funded by the ministry itself.
