Santo Romano's coffin on his football field before the funeral

The white coffin of Santo Romano, the 19-year-old killed during the night between Friday and Saturday in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, was carried to the Micri football field in Volla in the province of Naples, the Eccellenza team for which he played as a goalkeeper.

At the cry of “Santo” and after a long applause, his teammates carried the coffin on their shoulders, placing it in front of the goal. On the coffin there was a photo of Santo and bundles of white flowers. Between tears and emotion, the entire team, friends and relatives remembered his qualities as a goalkeeper.

Many of those present wore white T-shirts with Santo's face on them and held white balloons in their hands.

The mayor of Casoria: “Work so that it never happens again”

"I spoke with the father of Santo's girlfriend, we need to be close to the family and respect the pain they are experiencing at this time. We all need to keep Santo's memory alive and work so that these things never happen again."

Raffaele Bene, mayor of Casoria, said this as he entered the church of Santa Maria Francesca delle Cinque Piaghe for the funeral of Santo Romano, a 19-year-old killed during the night between November 1 and 2 in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio.
