Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message of condolence for the death of the Pontiff. “The news arouses emotion and sadness among Italians and throughout the world,” he added.
Mattarella recalled the legacy of Pope Francis, underlining his commitment to the evangelical message, solidarity, closeness to the weakest, international cooperation and peace. “The gratitude towards him – concluded the Head of State – calls us to the responsibility of continuing his work for these universal values”.

The passing of Pope Francis is a great loss for all of us, not only for Italians but for the entire world. I hope that his message can continue to live among people and that his legacy remains alive.
