Massive fraud in Agropoli involving counterfeit checks and money laundering
Agropoli – Counterfeit checks to purchase minicars, stolen credit cards, and a well-organized money laundering scheme. This is the picture emerging from the investigation by the Vallo della Lucania Prosecutor's Office, which led to the execution of four precautionary measures by order of the investigating judge.
The Carabinieri of Agropoli They served a house arrest order on one suspect and a stay-at-home order on two others. A fourth, already in prison abroad, is untraceable.
The group, operating in Agropoli, is accused of forming a criminal conspiracy to defraud minicar sellers. Their method? Paying with forged checks to take possession of the vehicles, leaving the victims without money and without the vehicle they sold.
Two of the suspects are also held responsible for the improper use of credit cards, resulting from four thefts committed along the Cilento coast by as yet unidentified accomplices. With these cards, the accused allegedly made payments totaling €4, then diverted the funds to bank accounts linked to them, in a multi-level money laundering operation.
The precautionary measure for the fourth suspect—house arrest—was not carried out because he is already detained in a foreign country for another matter.
The investigation, coordinated by the Vallo della Lucania Public Prosecutor's Office, could expand: officers are investigating possible connections to other crimes in the area. Meanwhile, the precautionary measures mark a significant first step in dismantling a network dedicated to fraud and money laundering.
The next steps will be to analyze the financial flows and identify any possible accomplices, while the suspects will face charges of criminal conspiracy, fraud, and money laundering.
