Dobrogea, Capital of Cultural Diversity: The Kurultai 2025 Festival celebrated its jubilee edition

From September 5 to 7, 2025, Techirghiol became the scene of one of the most evocative intercultural celebrations in Romania: the Kurultai International Intercultural Festival, now in its tenth edition.

The event, organized under the patronage of the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and hosted by the Techirghiol Municipality, brought together over 20 countries, 250 international athletes and 150 artists.

Unforgettable moments

The audience thrilled with Arslanbek Sultanbekov, a legend of Central Asian music, who delivered a memorable “Legendary Concert,” followed by the national premiere of the film “Şȋmarîk” [The Riddler].

Mrs. Lenara Osmanova literally set the stage ablaze with her "Ateș" (Fire) and other songs popular among the Crimean Tatars [now in the diaspora]. Artists from Crimea, Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Turkey, Gagauzia, and Romania took to the stage of the Jean Constantin Summer Theater, paying homage to Turkish and international cultural heritage.

Traditions and UNESCO heritage

The festival attracted young people with days dedicated to traditional UNESCO-listed games and sports, creative and craft workshops, traditional cuisine, and equestrian shows.

A moment of great emotion was the announcement of the inclusion in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Traditional Tatar Wedding – TOY, a long-awaited project by the Tatar community in Romania.

Kurash at the international level

The International Kurash Institute and the International Kurash Association, in collaboration with the Democratic Union of Tatars, organized a seminar with experts from Uzbekistan and Korea to support the development of this sport in Europe.

Dobrogea – a living cultural mosaic

The Kurultai Festival once again confirmed that Dobrogea is a meeting place for cultures and traditions, where diversity is a value and a bridge between generations.
“Listening, sharing, and intercultural dialogue are the key to building a common future through heritage and culture,” was the message conveyed during the festival.

Kurultai 2025 was not just a festival, but a lesson in unity through culture, demonstrating how traditions can unite peoples and generations in a single spirit: that of friendship and mutual respect.

The next edition promises even more energy, creativity, and cultural bridges!
