Avellino prison running out of water: emergency triggered, water tankers arriving

Water shortages and rationing at the Avellino prison: the water supply emergency was the focus of a meeting convened at the Prefecture, attended by officials from the prison, the Alto Calore prison, and the Campania Region's Civil Protection Department.

The meeting highlighted "maximum interinstitutional collaboration" to address the critical issues highlighted by the Union of Penitentiary Police Unions and address both the current emergency and the difficulties that have reportedly persisted for years.

On the structural front, the institute's management is working to strengthen the distribution network and drinking water storage systems, with the aim of definitively overcoming supply problems.

In the meantime, however, immediate action is needed to reduce rationing hours. The regional Civil Protection Department has agreed to send a tanker truck of non-potable water for firefighting services.

A further technical meeting is also planned starting tomorrow between prison staff and those of Alto Calore, who will be asked to identify solutions to best utilize available water resources.

Among the options being considered is sending a tanker truck with drinking water to fill the institute's reservoir. The goal is to ensure more stable conditions immediately, pending interventions aimed at addressing the root cause of a long-standing problem at the facility.
