Avellino — As part of their efforts to combat pollution of the Sarno River, the Carabinieri of the Forino Forestry Unit, in collaboration with the local units of the force, have reported a 55-year-old woman, sole administrator of a factory specializing in nailing and finishing leather, to the Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office.
The company, located in the Avellino area, was found to lack the mandatory permit for emissions into the atmosphere, a fundamental requirement for operating industrial activities that involve processes with an environmental impact.
Following the detected irregularity, the military ordered the precautionary seizure of the entire production area, approximately 5.000 square meters, including three industrial warehouses and all the machinery used for processing the hides.
The project is part of a broader memorandum of understanding between the Carabinieri and the Judicial Authority for the protection of the Sarno basin, one of the most monitored waterways in Campania due to the risk of illegal dumping.
Further inspections are planned in the coming days to protect the community and the river ecosystem, with particular attention to companies in the tanning and canning sectors, which are often under scrutiny for unauthorized discharges.
