NAPLES – He attempted to evade a police stop, leading to a chase through the streets of Naples, but the escape ended with him crashing into a patrol car. A 23-year-old man, already known to law enforcement, was arrested and charged with reckless evasion and damage to public property. He was also charged with receiving stolen goods and issued an administrative fine for driving without a license.
The incident occurred late yesterday evening, when officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue were conducting patrols. While passing through Via Arenaccia, the officers noticed a scooter carrying the young man.
Upon seeing the patrol car, the 23-year-old accelerated despite the officers' order to stop. A lengthy pursuit ensued, during which the driver allegedly performed several dangerous maneuvers, endangering traffic safety.
The escape ended on Via Alessio Mazzocchi. There, the scooter collided with a police car, and officers managed to subdue the young man.
Subsequent investigations also revealed that the vehicle used by the 23-year-old had been stolen. He was subsequently charged with receiving stolen goods, as well as with driving without a license.
After the investigation, the 23-year-old was arrested by officers. The charges will now be assessed in the next phase of the proceedings.
