Caivano– Her story, a blend of solidarity and mistrust, had made headlines across Italy in early 2023. Today, Giuseppina Giugliano, a 32-year-old former school assistant, faces another setback.
The Court of Appeal of Naples has in fact confirmed the dismissal, already decided in the first instance, putting an end (on a disciplinary level) to his employment relationship with the Ministry of Education.
Giugliano's story went viral when, after being hired at Milan's Boccioni art school, she explained that she was forced to commute every day between Naples and the Lombardy capital to avoid the cost of a commute. Her story initially sparked an outpouring of solidarity.
Soon, however, shadows emerged: his attendance at school was actually less frequent than declared, due to a long period of illness.
Transferred to Campania, in November 2023 she was assigned to the “Francesco Morano” high school in Caivano, led by principal Eugenia Carfora, the director made famous by the television drama “Vincere tutto” starring Luisa Ranieri.
The situation escalated in Caivano. The school assistant was accused of a series of prolonged and unexcused absences. According to the investigation, she submitted medical certificates late and requested leave to care for her sick uncle without meeting the legal requirements.
The formal complaint led to dismissal, which the woman appealed. With their recent decision, the Appellate Court has now rejected her arguments, upholding the decision.
But Giugliano's legal troubles aren't over. Alongside her employment situation, she faces a criminal trial. She's accused of stalking Principal Carfora herself. The hearing before the Naples North Court will shed light on the behavior and attitudes the former janitor allegedly displayed toward the principal, casting an even darker shadow over an already complex and controversial case.
