Earthquake strikes at dawn in the Phlegraean Fields
A new seismic event disrupted the sleep of residents of the Phlegraean Fields in the early hours of the morning. At 5:04 a.m. today, Thursday, March 5, 2026, the Vesuvius Observatory recorded a magnitude 2.4 ± 0.3 tremor, with its epicenter in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, at a depth of approximately 2,7 kilometers. The earthquake, distinctly felt in the areas of Monterusciello, Lucrino, Arco Felice, and Monte di Procida, was accompanied by a loud boom heard by several residents.
In an official statement released immediately after the event, the mayor of Pozzuoli informed residents, urging them to remain calm and noting that no damage to people or property had been reported. "We are constantly monitoring the situation in close contact with the Vesuvius Observatory and the Civil Protection Department," the statement read.
