Naples, illegal street racing in Vomero: video of the escape

A sort of motocross race and exhibition in the heart of Vomero. That's what happened last night when eight motorcycles, all without license plates, sped through the streets of the hilltop neighborhood.

The scene was captured on video, showing the vehicles initially traveling in the correct direction, toward Vico Belvedere. Moments later, however, six of the motocrossers headed down the road in the wrong direction, suddenly coming face-to-face with a Carabinieri patrol.

The meeting with the Carabinieri and the escape

The motorcyclists, all wearing full-face helmets and balaclavas, were riding racing vehicles without license plates and therefore unidentifiable. Upon seeing the officers, they immediately attempted to reverse and flee.

The Carabinieri call a halt. One of the officers rushes toward the first motorcyclist in the line, who is already trying to escape in the direction he came from. The Carabinieri officer manages to grab his jacket, but the motorcyclist suddenly accelerates.

The policeman dragged on the asphalt

The motorcycle didn't stop and dragged the soldier for several meters. The policeman didn't let go, but the vehicle reared up and lost balance: both rider and soldier ended up on the asphalt.

Even after the fall, the young man tries to free himself and continue his escape, but in the meantime a second policeman arrives and stops him definitively.

A 29-year-old man arrested, another motorcyclist fined

Under the helmet and balaclava, the officers discovered the face of a 29-year-old man with no criminal record, resident in the San Carlo Arena neighborhood. He was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a public official.

Meanwhile, another motorcyclist, a 55-year-old man, was also stopped, but did not resist. He was fined for traffic violations. The two motocross bikes used by the arrested riders were seized.

Four motorcyclists on the run

The other four participants in the clandestine race managed to disappear during their escape through the streets of the neighborhood.

Investigations are underway to identify them, including through video footage documenting both the nighttime race and the frantic phases of the Carabinieri intervention.
