Naples, knife attack at school in Scampia: 14-year-old student injured in bathroom by 17-year-old

Naples – Fear erupted yesterday afternoon, around 5:00 PM, inside the "Pontano delle Arti e dei Mestieri" school on Viale della Resistenza in Scampia, where a 14-year-old boy was injured in the leg by a bladed weapon.

The intervention of the Carabinieri from the local station was triggered by a report from the school principal, who immediately alerted law enforcement. The initial investigation proved particularly complex due to the young victim's intense anxiety and fear. It emerged that the principal's contribution to reconstructing the circumstances of the incident was crucial.

The reconstruction of the military

According to the Carabinieri's findings, shortly before the shooting, a 17-year-old, accompanied by other boys, allegedly persuaded the 14-year-old to follow him to the school's restrooms. Once there, the older boy allegedly pulled out a knife, repeatedly miming the action of hitting him, until he actually wounded the 14-year-old in the leg.

Panic ensued immediately afterward, with moments of agitation and a general stampede among those present. The incident caused widespread alarm within the school, bringing the issue of safety in schools and the growing aggression among young people back into the spotlight.

The searches and the discovery of the weapon

The investigation by officers from the Scampia station continued with a search of the 17-year-old's home. A switchblade was found in his bedroom, hidden in a bedside table among his underwear. The weapon, however, was not consistent with the wound sustained by the 14-year-old.

Further investigations led to the identification of the location where the knife used to inflict the wound was allegedly hidden. According to the reconstruction, it was hidden by a 15-year-old friend of the 17-year-old, who placed it near the offices of the 8th Municipality of Naples.

Upon reaching the indicated location, the Carabinieri found and seized the weapon most likely used in the attack: a butterfly knife still soaked in blood, hidden in a drain and covered by a wooden strip.

Two reports, phones seized

Following the investigation, the 17-year-old was charged with assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. The 15-year-old was charged with aiding and abetting. The smartphones were also seized, which may now provide investigators with further information to clarify the dynamics and relationships between the boys involved.

The investigation continues under the coordination of the Naples Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, which has closely monitored the case. Investigators are trying to determine whether the injury occurred within a broader context of intimidation or previous acts of bullying.

The Scampia incident cannot be dismissed as a simple, degenerate argument. The fact that a boy entered school with a knife, brandished it as a threatening instrument, and then used it against a peer speaks to an alarming leap in the way conflicts between adolescents are managed. In recent months, incidents of youth violence have increased in various Italian cities in or near schools, involving knives, pepper spray, blunt objects, and organized or filmed attacks.
