Miano: Vincenzo Lo Russo injured, fears of renewed feud

Naples – During the night, Marianella's silence was shattered by a series of five gunshots. The hitmen's target was Vincenzo Lo Russo, 33, a prominent figure in the local criminal scene and the son of the boss Domenico. The young man, rushed to the hospital, is not believed to be in life-threatening condition, but the motive for the attack remains a mystery.

According to the victim's initial statements to the Carabinieri, the attack was triggered by a bloody robbery attempt. This version, however, doesn't convince investigators. The precision of the fire and the caliber of the shots fired suggest a much more complex dynamic, attributable to an internal settling of scores or a signal sent by newly emerging groups attempting to fill the power vacuum left by the old leaders of Miano.

Vincenzo's profile: the puzzle of his release from prison

Vincenzo Lo Russo, known in the news as the heir to one of the city's most powerful criminal dynasties, has a rich judicial history. His name emerged forcefully in June 2016 during a major operation against the "Capitoni" clan. In October 2020, his fugitive status or semi-liberty ended in Scalea, where he was arrested and sentenced to nine years for extortion.

Why was he free? The question arises spontaneously among citizens and observers. According to the reconstruction of the court records, Vincenzo Lo Russo benefited, at various stages, from deferred sentence measures or alternative regimes related to health reasons or the expiration of procedural deadlines for certain specific satellite crimes.

His recent presence in the Miano area testifies to a probation or early release (often due to the calculation of "pre-suffering"), which had allowed him to return to his home neighborhood, where, however, he found the bullet of the hitmen awaiting him.

His Father's Legacy: Who Is Domenico Lo Russo?

To understand the magnitude of the attack, it's necessary to look at his father, Domenico Lo Russo, brother of the more notorious "capitoni" Salvatore, Mario, Carlo, and Giuseppe. Unlike many of his brothers, who over the years chose to cooperate with justice, effectively dismantling the clan's historic structure, Domenico maintained a different profile.

Historically responsible for managing financial affairs and racketeering, Domenico has been repeatedly identified as the keeper of the secrets of what was once a criminal confederation capable of influencing entire sectors of the legal and illegal economy of Northern Naples. The fact that his son Vincenzo was killed precisely at a time of family "reorganization" suggests that the Lo Russo surname still represents a symbol of power or, conversely, an obstacle for the new blood of organized crime.

Miano becomes a powder keg again

The attack on Vincenzo Lo Russo is not being seen as an isolated incident. In recent months, the northern area of Naples has seen increased friction between small, independent groups and the remnants of the major historical families. Investigators fear this injury could trigger a chain reaction, a new "shock" in an area that has never found true social peace.

The investigation is now continuing on two tracks: analyzing video surveillance footage from the Marianella area and monitoring communication flows within the Scampia and Miano neighborhoods, to intercept any signs of a possible vendetta or further attack on the leaders of what remains of the "Capitoni" gang.
