Lukaku clarifies: "I still have one year left on my contract with Napoli, no transfer requests."

In an exclusive interview with RTBF, Romelu Lukaku clarified his relationship with Napoli and his footballing future.

“I still have one year left on my contract with Napoli and I never asked to be sold to the club,” declared the Belgian striker, underlining his disappointment with the way some Italian media have handled the matter, calling it “exaggerated.”

Lukaku explained that he returned to Belgium not for a holiday, but to recover as best as possible from a muscular overload detected after some medical tests carried out at the end of March, a period in which he had already noticed some physical problems that limited him on the pitch.

o. "I've maintained constant dialogue with the management and the coach, and now the relationship is calm and there's no tension," he added. Regarding the future, Lukaku confirmed his desire to return to Anderlecht, the club where it all began, but not immediately:

"It won't be this year, but one day I'll return home to be close to my family." The center forward also expressed his optimism ahead of the World Cup: "I'm feeling better and better; I reached a speed of 35,5 km/h in recent tests, a speed I haven't seen in years. I'm just missing the match rhythm, but I don't expect to be a starter or play a full hour.

I will do everything I can to stay fit and contribute to the team during the tournament." Lukaku is also looking ahead after the World Cup, dreaming of participating in two more major international events, aiming to end his competitive career in 2030 at the age of 37: "I'm taking care of myself to keep playing for a long time," he concluded.
