Naples: Car overturns on tram tracks: driver drunk, speeding three times over the limit

Naples – Another accident with traffic-related consequences occurred in Naples on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. Around 3:00 a.m., on Via Ponte dei Granili, a car overturned and crashed onto the tram tracks. The driver, a 39-year-old man, tested positive for alcohol, with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit.

The man was traveling on the road toward San Giovanni a Teduccio when, due to high speed, he lost control of the vehicle. He violently impacted the fence of a properly marked roadworks area: the impact caused the car to overturn, ending up right on the tram tracks.

Despite the dramatic dynamics and violence of the collision, neither the driver nor the passenger suffered serious injuries. The Naples Local Police Road Accident Unit responded to the scene to conduct technical surveys, secure the area, and manage the traffic disruption caused by the vehicle stopped on the tracks.

The 39-year-old was immediately subjected to urgent tests: the blood alcohol content (BAC) was significantly above the legal limit. The officers had no choice but to immediately withdraw his license and initiate the procedures required by the Highway Code for drunk driving.
