Naples: Driving the wrong way on the ring road for 5 kilometers results in license revocation and car impounded.

The driver reversed at the Astroni barrier, also driving through the Monte Sant'Angelo tunnel. A motorcyclist suffered minor injuries in the incident. His license was withdrawn pending revocation, and the vehicle was placed under administrative seizure.

The alarm and the intervention of the agents

Tensions were high yesterday afternoon on the Naples ring road, where a driver drove about five kilometers in the wrong direction, endangering the safety of other road users.

The alarm was raised after numerous reports reached the Naples Traffic Police Operations Center, reporting the presence of a car traveling on the opposite lane toward Arco Felice.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Fuorigrotta Highway Police Subsection responded and, with the support of traffic personnel from the Naples Ring Road, were able to intercept and stop the vehicle near the Fuorigrotta exit. The driver was a woman.

The U-turn at Astroni and the race in the tunnel

Subsequent investigations allowed the investigators to reconstruct the circumstances of the incident. The driver apparently reversed direction at the Astroni highway toll booth, continuing in the wrong direction for approximately five kilometers toward Arco Felice.

On the way, the car also passed through the Monte Sant'Angelo tunnel, one of the busiest sections of the ring road, further increasing the risk of a serious accident.

The injured motorcyclist

During the inspection, the officers noticed damage to the front left side of the car, consistent with a recent collision.

Confirmation arrived shortly thereafter: a motorcyclist reported being involved in a collision with a car traveling the wrong way. The rider suffered minor injuries and was rescued by emergency personnel, who transported him to the Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital in Pozzuoli for treatment.

License revoked and car impounded

At the end of the investigations, the Highway Police charged the driver with two violations of the Highway Code.
