Quarto awards the nurse who saved a man during a padel match

The mayor of Quarto presented a plaque to Natascia Maraniello, a nurse at Cardarelli Hospital, for her timely intervention that saved a life, underscoring the civic and professional value of her gesture.

Quarto – An act of courage and professionalism that transcended the workplace was recognized this morning by the Quarto Municipal Administration . Mayor Antonio Sabino presented a plaque of merit to Natascia Maraniello, a nurse at the AORN Cardarelli in Naples and a Quarto citizen, for saving the life of a man who suffered cardiac arrest during a padel match. The ceremony, held in the Town Hall in the presence of administrators and institutional representatives, recognized not only the heroic gesture but also the message of solidarity and civic duty it conveyed.

The citation for the award states that Maraniello has demonstrated "great altruism and prompt professional expertise," emphasizing how the skills he has acquired in the healthcare field can be an asset that can be made available to the community in any situation. Currently working in the Neurosurgery department at Cardarelli Hospital, Maraniello has also developed skills in cardiology and emergency care, which proved crucial in the emergency response.

"Situations like this can arise unexpectedly, even during everyday sports activities," Maraniello explained, emphasizing the importance of ongoing training and the widespread availability of defibrillators. "Every citizen should feel part of a solidarity network ready to act to help those in need."

Gratitude to the municipal institution was accompanied by a call to enhance the role of healthcare workers: "Behind every intervention lies a journey of study, experience, and sacrifice that deserves attention and recognition, not only human but also professional."

Maraniello, also a union leader for the CISL Public Function of Naples, reiterated the importance of investing in the professional development and contract renewal of healthcare workers, essential elements for strengthening the healthcare system and its proximity to citizens. He also thanked the Order of Nursing Professions of Naples and its president, Teresa Rea, for their fundamental role in promoting ethics and professional training.

In a special appeal to young people, Maraniello emphasized how competence and humanity must always go hand in hand, urging them to invest in training and active participation to build an increasingly effective and humane healthcare system.

The Quarto Municipal Administration thus sought to transform an individual gesture into a symbol of civic culture, solidarity, and responsibility for the entire community.
