Fuel prices skyrocket: Codacons reports summer hikes of up to 6,8 euros per tank

Rome, July 15, 2026 – The upward spiral in fuel prices continues, hitting Italian motorists hard in the height of summer. According to data provided by Codacons, the average price of diesel has surpassed the €2 per liter mark on the regular network, settling at €2,017, a net increase of 13,5 cents compared to the figures recorded on July 3. Gasoline has also seen a significant increase, with an average increase of 9,4 cents over the same period.

On highways, the situation is even more critical: diesel fuel is approaching 2,1 euros per liter, with an average price of 2,086 euros, up 11,8 cents from the beginning of the month. In practical terms, this translates into an additional cost of 6,8 euros for a full tank of diesel and 4,7 euros for a full tank of gasoline.

Codacons urges the government to urgently intervene, proposing a further excise duty cut extending throughout the summer, to alleviate the burden of these price increases on Italian families and prevent further difficulties in daily travel. Without timely action, fuel price increases risk becoming a real drain on consumers.
