The Carabinieri of Marcianise discovered and seized an illegal landfill containing hazardous materials, including asbestos, in an area of the Land of Fires. Part of the waste had been set on fire, exacerbating health and environmental risks.

Land of Fires: An illegal asbestos landfill site in Marcianise has been seized, sparking a new battle against pollution.
The Carabinieri's fight against environmental crimes in the notorious Land of Fires continues unabated. Yesterday afternoon, a patrol from the Marcianise station identified and seized an illegal landfill in the Sacchi area, where hazardous and non-hazardous waste had been accumulated and abandoned over approximately 20 square meters.
Among the materials discovered, sheets and fragments of asbestos were mixed with construction waste, glass wool, iron, and glass, many of which showed clear traces of combustion, indicating an attempt to dispose of them by fire.
These types of actions not only violate the law, but also pose a tangible threat to public health and environmental protection, especially in an already severely compromised area like the Land of Fires. Following the discovery, the military immediately proceeded to cordon off and sequester the area, which is currently under judicial custody pending further investigation.
The Technical Office of the Municipality of Marcianise has been tasked with assessing the nature of the materials, arranging for their removal, and securing the site in accordance with current regulations. Meanwhile, the investigation is focused on identifying those responsible for the abandonment and attempted illegal disposal.
The operation is part of a broader monitoring and enforcement plan launched by the Carabinieri in the Campania region, with the aim of effectively combating environmental pollution and ensuring citizen safety. The challenge remains high, but yesterday's seizure confirms the law enforcement's ongoing commitment to protecting a region too often victimized by criminal waste management.
