Naples, noise alarm in Piazza Bellini: the city council closes the premises at 1:00 AM and halts takeaway.

The City of Naples has declared war on noise pollution in the heart of the historic center. Starting today, Wednesday, July 29, and lasting until November 29, 2026, new and stringent measures will go into effect to regulate nightlife in the Piazza Bellini area and surrounding streets.

The measure, formalized through a mayoral ordinance, aims to protect public peace and citizens' right to rest, historically challenged by uncontrolled nighttime gatherings.

Palazzo San Giacomo's decision is not accidental, but follows recent monitoring conducted by Arpac. The regional agency's findings, supported by specific rulings from the Court of Naples, have certified a

Persistent exceeding of legal noise limits, with critical peaks concentrated mainly in the evening hours. The administration's goal is therefore to strike a balance between the health of local residents and the needs of business and social interaction, by directly addressing crowding.

New rules for clubs

To address the problem, the ordinance introduces a very specific set of restrictions. First and foremost, the sale and takeaway of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, is banned from 10:30 PM until 6:00 AM the following morning.

Important changes also affect public opening hours. From Sunday to Thursday, all businesses must close their doors by 1:00 a.m., with a 30-minute grace period for cleaning and equipment reorganization. On Fridays and Saturdays, closing time is extended to 2:00 a.m., with the extra half-hour for clearing out remaining unchanged. Everyone will be allowed to reopen in the morning starting at 6:00 a.m.

The regulations apply indiscriminately to all types of businesses operating within the affected area, including commercial and artisanal businesses and vending machines. At the end of the four-month period of the measure's validity, ARPAC technicians will return to the field for a new noise monitoring campaign, essential for evaluating the effectiveness of the restrictions and deciding on any future actions.
