Pisano Foundries
The decision-making Conference on the future of Fonderie Pisano & CSpA has been scheduled for August 26, 2026. The Campania Region has convened a meeting at 10:30 a.m. dedicated to the review procedure, with validity for renewal and amendment, of the Integrated Environmental Authorization (AIA) issued to the plant.
The call comes after the company presented documentation relating to its industrial reconversion project, which involves replacing the current coal-fired furnaces with new electric furnaces, as part of the adjustments required by the Best Available Techniques (BAT) regulations.
In recent days, the regional body had requested further clarification from the company, which was subsequently provided in a technical note acquired on July 6th. Given the complexity of the procedure, the Region deemed it necessary to convene all the administrations involved to gather opinions, authorizations, clearances, and other relevant documents.
The meeting follows several days of protests by Fonderie Pisano workers in front of the Campania Region headquarters, awaiting a discussion on the authorization process and the plant's future production.
The notice reminds that each administration must participate through a single representative authorized to express a definitive and binding position. Any additional documentation or clarifications may be requested within fifteen days of receiving the document.
According to the procedure, the administrations' consent will be considered acquired even if they fail to attend the meeting or express their position. The final decision of the Services Conference will supersede all necessary consents from the entities involved.
The project submitted by Fonderie Pisano includes structural improvements to the plant and the installation of new electrical systems. The Integrated Environmental Authorization, however, does not replace building permits: therefore, the Municipality of Salerno will have to assess the planned interventions' compliance with urban planning regulations.
On the energy front, Terna Rete Italia and E-Distribuzione were also involved, called upon to provide their technical assessments in relation to the needs of the new production structure.
