Naples – Three gunshots fired in the darkness, in the dead of night, plunged the Sanità district once again into the nightmare of the Camorra. It was around 2:00 a.m. when the shots shattered the silence in the neighborhood dear to Totò.

The alarm was raised immediately: several residents, along with members of the Army's permanent garrison, alerted law enforcement. Within minutes, a patrol car from the San Carlo Arena police station arrived at the scene, located on Via Sanità, at the corner of Via Arena Sanità, a short distance from the Church of San Vincenzo.

Three shell casings on the ground and no trace of injuries

By the time police arrived, the shooters were nowhere to be found. Forensic scientists recovered three 7,65 caliber shell casings from the road, which are now being examined by experts. Initial investigations revealed no damage to walls, balconies, windows, or nearby parked cars, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators are focusing their investigations on two main lines: a targeted intimidation of a local resident, or a classic "stesa," a show of force intended to demonstrate territorial control. According to initial reports, two men on a scooter appeared to be involved in the attack: one of them drew his weapon and fired into the air before disappearing.

Cameras and witnesses: investigations begin

The investigation, conducted by the local police station with the support of the Naples Police Headquarters' Flying Squad , has begun at a rapid pace. Officers have already acquired images from public and private video surveillance systems in the area to reconstruct the scooter's escape route. At the same time, they are combing through the network of informants and seeking any eyewitnesses willing to provide evidence to identify the two gunmen.

The ghost of the feud between the clans of the area

The background to the affair suggests a renewed conflict between the criminal organizations active in the neighborhood. On one side, the dominant cartel in the central part of the district, composed of the Sequino, Savarese, and Pirozzi groups; on the other, the historic rivals, the Vastarella clan, rooted in the Fontanelle area.

Tensions between the two sides already have a recent and bloody history: between March 2024 and June 2025, 11 serious incidents were recorded, sparked by the release of prominent figures from both sides. A trail of violence characterized by:

One murder and five injuries;

Numerous intimidating “layouts”;

Two armed raids targeted a bar run by a relative of the Vastarellas with no criminal record (including the episode on April 4, 2024, when the attackers intimidated the staff and ordered the establishment to close).

That period of conflict ended with a DDA operation that resulted in eight arrests. At the same time, the shrine dedicated to Emanuele Tufano, the fifteen-year-old killed by friendly fire during a shootout with youths from the Mercato neighborhood linked to the Mazzarellas, was also removed. Now, after months of apparent calm, the three overnight attacks threaten to reopen a wound that has never fully healed.
