A late-night raid on Nerano beach: tables in the VIP restaurant seized.

Massa Lubrense – The Coast Guard launched a raid on the beach of Marina del Cantone, in the municipality of Massa Lubrense. Late in the evening, officers from the Castellammare di Stabia Port Authority, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office and supported by the local Compamare military, conducted a targeted operation against illegal occupation of state-owned maritime property.

The seizure in the historic temple of gastronomy

Three beachfront restaurants and beach resorts have been targeted by law enforcement. The seizures particularly targeted the renowned "Maria Grazia" restaurant, a global culinary icon, having originated the famous spaghetti alla Nerano in the early 20th century. Port authorities have sealed off dozens of tables located without authorization on the shoreline and even along the slipway used for hauling fishermen.

This is yet another legal snafu for the establishment: last July, the owner was already subject to a restraining order for violating the seals previously affixed to a platform used for catering. This precedent has not prevented the violations from recurring.

A similar measure was also taken against the "Musdea" lounge bar, which was also fined with the seizure of its furniture located on public property. The only exception overnight was the third establishment inspected on the beach, "L'Africano," which was found to be in full compliance with all its permits.

Borrelli's inspection and the issues surrounding local controls

The Coast Guard's intervention came just hours after a visit to the same beach by Green-Left MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who has been on a monitoring tour of the beaches south of Naples for weeks, verifying compliance with the law following numerous reports from residents and swimmers.

The outcome of the raid, however, has reopened a heated political and administrative debate: it remains unclear how the Local Police and the municipal administration of Massa Lubrense tolerated such abuses, allowing a facility already under seizure and interdiction to continue to unlawfully occupy public space.
