Regional councilor and leader of the Fico Presidente group, Nino Simeone, has taken a harsh stance in the debate over the future of Napoli's stadium, responding to recent statements by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, speaking on the sidelines of the unveiling of the club's centenary jersey.

According to Simeone, the Azzurri patron systematically turns public occasions into moments of political confrontation, overshadowing the club's history and the symbolic value of the centenary.
"Aurelio De Laurentiis never misses an opportunity to turn every interview into a polemic and every anniversary into a personal stage. Even in Napoli's centenary year, instead of focusing on the club's history, the fans, and the city, he once again chooses to talk about himself and attack politics," Simeone states.

The councilor also emphasizes that "Naples is not a personal asset, but belongs first and foremost to the city and the Neapolitans, who preserve its identity, passion, and history."

The regional representative then addressed the issue of the Diego Armando Maradona stadium and the possible construction of a new facility, inviting De Laurentiis to present a concrete project without involving public resources.
"If you truly consider this investment strategic," Simeone argues, "do what the big clubs do: present a serious project and implement it with the club's private capital or through private partners."

According to the group leader, Fico Presidente, even considering public funding for a stadium destined to be owned by a private company would be "an unacceptable stretch," and, in his view, potentially conflict with the principles governing the use of public resources and state aid regulations.
