In the photo, a detail of the story.
In August, "Vesuvio Sotto le Stelle" 2026 kicks off, the summer initiative that transforms the trails of Vesuvius National Park into a nighttime experience combining nature, culture, and astronomical observation. Following its success on July weekends, the event—organized by the "Vesuvio Natura da Esplorare" association—offers daily events, confirming its position as one of the most anticipated summer events in Campania.
Now in its thirteenth year, the initiative annually attracts hundreds of tourists, families, and hikers, offering the chance to experience the volcano from a unique perspective, from sunset until nightfall. The excursions, authorized by the Park Authority and organized in collaboration with the Vesuvian municipalities, take place along guided trails that combine landscapes, local history, and moments dedicated to stargazing.
The 2026 program includes two main itineraries, differentiated by altitude and landscape characteristics.
Route 600: An accessible trail on the western slope, amidst Mediterranean vegetation and lava flows from the latest eruption, with views of the Gulf of Naples and evocative sunsets.
Route 1000: a more immersive itinerary through volcanic scenery and lunar landscapes, with views of the crater and a more rugged and spectacular natural setting.
Activities begin at 7:00 PM and last approximately two and a half hours, alternating between slow walking, storytelling stops, and moments of listening to nature, concluding around 10:30 PM. To round out the experience, an aperitif under the stars with wine and local products.
The August calendar includes some special dates, enhanced by astronomical conditions and dedicated formats. Among the most anticipated events:
Night of San Lorenzo, dedicated to the observation of shooting stars;
Full moon excursions, illuminated by the natural light of the satellite;
Evenings with a new moon, ideal for admiring a sky particularly rich in stars;
Ferragosto Special: Experience the holiday in a different way, surrounded by nature and silence.
"Vesuvio Sotto le Stelle" is confirmed for 2026 as a plastic-free event, organized with respect for the park's biodiversity. The excursions are recommended for ages 7 and up and require appropriate clothing, hiking shoes, and minimal personal equipment.
"For the thirteenth year, the initiative has confirmed its position as one of the most popular summer events in Campania," explain Giulia Pugliese and Stefano Vergaglia of the organizing association. "The routes continually change with nature, and at night, they become even more evocative, allowing visitors to experience Vesuvius from a different perspective."
