A fake marshal steals €20 in jewelry: a 29-year-old Neapolitan man is arrested.

A 29-year-old Campanian man with an extensive criminal record was arrested Wednesday by the Brescia Flying Squad while carrying out yet another scam against an elderly woman. The man, a specialist in defrauding vulnerable individuals, travels from city to city, targeting those who trust him. Officers spotted him near the train station, on the phone and acting suspicious.

They followed him as he got into a taxi and headed to a house on Via Passo del Moncenisio. When he cautiously emerged, he was stopped and searched: he was carrying gold objects and two watches worth a total of approximately €20.000.

Reconstructing the facts, investigators discovered that shortly beforehand, the victim, an 87-year-old woman, had received a phone call from a man posing as a Carabinieri marshal. The fake officer had convinced her that she was suspected of a robbery and had persuaded her to gather all the jewelry from the house for a supposed check. Shortly thereafter, an accomplice, claiming to be an assistant to the marshal, showed up at the door and, taking advantage of a moment of distraction, stole the bag containing the valuables.

Blocked at the apartment's exit, the man was taken to the police station and arrested for aggravated residential burglary. Brescia Police Commissioner Paolo Sartori also issued him a mandatory expulsion order, banning him from re-entering the city for the next three years. Anyone violating the order faces up to a year and a half in prison and a €10.000 fine. Law enforcement officials reiterate that they never ask for money, bank details, or security codes over the phone. In the event of suspicious incidents, you can call 112 or report them through the State Police's YouPol app.
