Salerno, 28-year-old arrested for stalking

A recurring alarm that highlights the difficulties in preventing stalking crimes. Yesterday afternoon, Carabinieri officers from the Torchiara and Perdifumo stations executed a pre-trial detention order against a 28-year-old man from Torchiara, issued by the investigating judge of the Vallo della Lucania Court at the request of the Valais Prosecutor's Office. The man is being investigated for stalking three women, one of whom is the owner of a hospitality business.

Investigations confirmed that, despite the 28-year-old having already served a sentence for similar crimes against the same victims, he repeatedly contacted them again, abusing and threatening them. More than just words: he stationed himself outside their gates and repeatedly appeared outside their properties, fueling a climate of fear and insecurity.

The preliminary investigations judge's decision, agreeing with the prosecutor's request, confirmed the need for a severe precautionary measure, namely prison detention, to prevent further stalking. The case highlights the complexity of managing stalking cases and the need for a more efficient judicial and social system to protect victims, especially when perpetrators show a tendency to reiterate harassing behavior immediately after completing a prison sentence.

The speed of intervention by law enforcement and the Prosecutor's Office is crucial, but a broader reflection on combating these crimes remains central.
