Naples – A tragedy has struck a Neapolitan family, reviving the spotlight on the city's handling of health emergencies. A newborn baby girl died at Naples' Cardarelli Hospital just 48 hours after birth, leaving her parents in anguish and prompting them to appeal to the courts for full investigation into the incident.
The story began on July 27, when the child's mother presented herself at the San Giovanni Bosco Hospital in Naples for hospitalization due to her imminent birth. According to initial reports, after a grueling labor that lasted approximately two days, doctors decided to perform a cesarean section.
Immediately after birth, however, the newborn's clinical condition deteriorated due to sudden and serious complications. To ensure her survival, she was urgently transferred to Cardarelli Hospital, where, sadly, the baby died just 48 hours after birth.
Overwhelmed by grief, the little girl's parents filed a formal complaint with the police to investigate any negligence or errors during labor and delivery.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green and Left Alliance (AVS), also intervened on the matter and remained in close contact with the victim's family:
In the face of such an immense tragedy, I express my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family. We urge the judiciary and the health authorities to immediately shed full light on what happened. It is difficult to accept that in 2026, a newborn baby would lose her life just two days after birth in a public facility. Any responsibilities must be determined and the parents must be given clear answers.
It will now be up to investigators and internal investigations by the Campania health service to reconstruct the exact sequence of events and determine the cause of death.
