Pozzuoli, 3311 displaced persons
Pozzuoli – Two weeks after the earthquake that rocked the Phlegraean Fields on July 31st, the work to secure the area and assist the population continues unabated. The situation was reviewed during the latest meeting of the Relief Coordination Center, promoted by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, in the presence of the mayors of the Phlegraean Fields and the regional councilor for Civil Protection, Fiorella Zabatta.
Official data confirm the scale of the emergency: 3.311 residents have been displaced in Pozzuoli, following 351 evacuation or interdiction orders issued by the Municipality for 1.322 families. Almost all of the affected residents (3.168 people) have opted for independent accommodation; 143 are currently staying in affiliated hotels, while 54 are still being housed at the municipal Palatrincone facility.
Regarding static inspections, the Fire Department has now completed its inspection plan: 1.466 property inspections have been conducted, with only six cases remaining to be processed. At the same time, the situation with essential services is improving: the water network has passed the critical stage thanks to 101 repairs, and operations are ongoing to identify remaining leaks and restore full pressure to all utilities.
While the rescue operations are operating at full capacity, traffic in the port area remains open. The ban on heavy vehicles exceeding 3,5 tons—ordered by the mayor after two unsafe buildings were discovered between Via Roma and Via Fasano—has effectively blocked the main road to the ports for Ischia and Procida.
The forced diversion of trucks to the Porta di Massa railway station in Naples has triggered a strong reaction from truck drivers, who have declared a state of unrest and demanded an immediate review of the ordinance. To break the deadlock, the Prefecture has ordered urgent technical inspections of the two buildings to expedite safety improvements and allow the road to reopen. The findings of the surveys and possible road solutions will be discussed at the monitoring meeting convened at the Prefecture for tomorrow afternoon.
