Naples: 55-year-old woman charged with dumping hazardous waste near Soccavo sports field

Naples – Illegal waste dumping is the serious crime alleged in the report sent to the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office against a fifty-five-year-old woman from the Traiano district. The woman, previously without a criminal record, landed in trouble following a rapid investigation conducted by the Carabinieri, sparked by the civic-mindedness of a citizen who decided not to look the other way.

Reporting and dumping

It all began when a timely call to the operations center reported unauthorized activity on Via Saverio Simonetti, in the Soccavo neighborhood. A resident witnessed the entire abandonment scene live, providing valuable details to law enforcement to track down the person responsible.

The fifty-five-year-old had driven to an area located just steps from a soccer field frequented by the neighborhood's youth. Instead of regularly disposing of the materials at designated recycling centers, she began dumping a significant amount of hazardous waste on the public road.

Among the materials indiscriminately dumped were rubble and waste material, old pipes, scrap metal, paint cans, and even a gasoline can, creating a potential hazard for residents.

The seizure of the area

The prompt intervention of law enforcement prevented the road from becoming yet another open-air illegal dump in the suburbs. Carabinieri officers from the Rione Traiano station quickly arrived on the scene and began the necessary investigation.

The operation was conducted in close logistical coordination with the "control room" established at the Regional Command Carabinieri Forestry Department of Campania. Thanks to this collaborative investigation, the military was able to quickly identify the woman and immediately proceeded with the precautionary seizure of the area affected by the illegal disposal, securing it pending the necessary cleanup operations.
