Several aspects of the incident remain unclear, from the identity of the attackers to the motive behind the violence, and the precise sequence of events.

Spanish police investigation

Spanish authorities are currently investigating the case, trying to reconstruct the exact circumstances through testimonies from those present and any surveillance camera footage in the area.

The 21-year-old's family has filed a complaint. Investigators will now need to identify those responsible and determine any individual responsibilities for the attack.

The Italian Consulate is following the case

The Italian Consulate General in Barcelona immediately began providing assistance to the two young Italians involved.

Sources at the Farnesina report that the Consulate is monitoring Maggiotto's condition with the utmost attention, maintaining constant contact with his family, who have arrived in Barcelona, and with the healthcare facility treating the boy.
