Avellino: Man tampers with meters and steals over €127 in energy: 65-year-old reported

He allegedly tampered with meters and altered the power line to steal energy worth an estimated over €127. For this reason, a 65-year-old man from the Salerno area was reported by the Carabinieri of the Montoro station, in the province of Avellino, on charges of aggravated and repeated electricity theft.

The investigation was triggered by checks conducted by the military with the support of technical inspection personnel from the national electricity distribution company. The checks identified alleged irregularities within a factory managed by the man.

According to investigators' reconstruction, the meters were tampered with and the insulating terminals installed on the overhead distribution line were damaged, creating a potentially dangerous situation. The alterations could have caused electrical leaks on the power pole, posing a risk of electrocution.

The technical inspection determined the unrecorded consumption to be approximately 725.065,67 kilowatt hours, with an estimated economic value of €127.539,05. Following the investigation, the 65-year-old was reported to the judicial authorities at liberty.
