A worker injured in an accident at a school construction site in Ercolano, Italy.

A worker was injured while working on construction sites at the A. Maiuri Comprehensive Institute 5 in Ercolano. The accident occurred during energy efficiency improvements underway in the building.

The man, whose condition is currently being assessed, was rescued and transferred to the Ospedale del Mare in Naples. The circumstances of the accident and any liability remain unclear.

Work suspended, scaffolding seized

Following the incident, the Carabinieri and local police began an investigation, involving the local health authority (ASL). Work was suspended immediately, and the scaffolding on the construction site was seized by the municipal police.

The investigators' goal is to accurately reconstruct the accident dynamics and verify compliance with workplace safety regulations.

The mayor: "We want to shed full light on the matter."

Ercolano's mayor, Antonietta Garzia, stood by the worker and his family, calling the situation "worrying" and reassuring the administration's commitment to clarifying the situation.

"I have instructed the authorities to acquire all the necessary information to reconstruct the incident and verify compliance with safety conditions," the mayor declared.

"Safety must be a priority"

Garzia also announced his intention to involve the Municipality's legal team in starting a discussion on strengthening prevention measures at construction sites in the area.

The administration will also evaluate the possibility of developing an additional safety protocol, starting with public construction sites, to be subsequently extended to the private sector through the involvement of social partners and interested parties.

"Workplace safety must be a permanent priority, based on prevention and control," the mayor emphasized, assuring that the administration "will monitor the situation with the utmost vigilance."
