Bacoli, evacuation alert: "There are already 250, but they could soon become over 700."

Bacoli – After the violent 4.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the Campi Flegrei on Friday evening, the number of displaced people has risen, raising concerns among authorities.

Currently, around 250 people have been forced to leave their homes, but the number is expected to increase significantly in the coming hours, as the building safety checks are completed.

The mayor of Bacoli, Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, raised the alarm after a meeting of the Rescue Coordination Center at the Prefecture in Naples, painting a particularly delicate picture of the emergency.

“The number of displaced people could triple”

"There are currently around 250 displaced people, but it could triple that number, or even more. There are dozens of apartments and structures that still need to be assessed: the situation is decidedly serious," explained the mayor.

Technical inspections are still underway, and only in the next few hours will it be possible to know the actual number of homes declared uninhabitable.

Summit at the Prefecture with institutions and Civil Protection

The meeting convened at the Prefecture was attended by the prefect of Naples Michele di Bari, the mayor of Naples and president of the ANCI Gaetano Manfredi, the mayor of Pozzuoli Luigi Manzoni, the president of the Campania Region Roberto Fico, the heads of the National Civil Protection, connected by videoconference, and representatives of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

The comparison revealed that monitoring of the Phlegraean Fields continues uninterrupted, with particular attention to the evolution of the seismic swarm.

INGV: Possible further tremors of similar intensity

According to the mayor of Bacoli, INGV experts have not ruled out the possibility of further seismic events of comparable intensity to those recorded in the last few hours.

This forecast requires the utmost attention from rescue operations and local authorities, who are monitoring buildings and providing assistance to the population.

The issue of contributions to families already evacuated

The meeting also addressed the issue of families still living without homes following the previous earthquakes in March and June 2025.

Della Ragione recalled how many families are still waiting for the Independent Accommodation Grant (CAS), underlining the need to accelerate the disbursement of financial assistance for those who continue to live far from their homes.

Meanwhile, Prefect Michele di Bari is in constant contact with the Minister of Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci, updating him on the emergency's evolution and the progress of the inspections underway in the municipalities of the Phlegraean Fields area.
